Regular readers of Contract Hire News will know that the smart contract hire team here at City Vehicle Leasing relishes hearing stories of how smart customers are putting their fortwos to usual use.
We’re reported on some wacky smart owners and their fortwo cars in the past and thought that nothing could top some of the more unusual ones we’ve heard. But even we had to chuckle when news reached us this week of a business in Australia who put a fleet of smart cars to probably the most original and fun use ever.
Between 24 February and 1 March cinema goers in Melbourne Australia could watch big screen releases, drive-in-style from the inside of a smart fortwo.
The QV centre in the former Australian capital lined up a fleet of nine smart fortwo in front of the screen in the No-Vacancy gallery. A varied programme of independent films was shown to an audience of just 18 people at each performance, seated in the two-seater smart fortwo cars.
Unlike traditional drive-in movies where you would take your own car to the cinema and where the success of the evening greatly depended on whether it rained or not, at the indoor smart cinema the fortwo cars were supplied for movie goers to sit back and enjoy the film without the need for windscreen wipers or demister.
smart fortwo’s tardis like interior with ample leg and shoulder room, fully adjustable reclining seats and plenty of storage space for popcorn and soft drinks, would have made it the best seat in the house – each and every one of them.
