sContract hire customers looking for a car that combines cheap running costs with low CO2 gas emissions will soon be able to lease a smart forwo ed.
The electric drive smart fortwo is solely battery powered and as it doesn’t burn any fuel it doesn’t generate any emissions.
Having undergone extensive road trials over the last few years, the first mass production smart fortwo ed is due to go into manufacture some time in 2010. Contract hire customers who get their orders in early could be some of the first motorists in the UK to drive the zero-emission smart car.
Some of the companies and organisations to have trialed the smart fortwo ed over the last few years include London’s Metropolitan Police, local Government offices, PLCs, estate agents and universities, all of which have been successful.
Smart fortwo ed has a range of up to 70 mph on a full charge and a top speed of 55 mph. Contract hire customers looking to cut their motoring costs won’t find a cheaper car to run. The lithium-ion battery can be recharged overnight through a standard domestic power socket at a cost of around £1.20 and the smart fortwo ed can achieve an equivalent of 300 miles per gallon or around £1 for 50 miles.
If you can’t wait until 2010 for the smart fortwo ed, then the smart fortwo diesel is available to contract hire now with outstanding fuel economy and ultra low carbon emissions.
Smart fortwo cdi is the lowest CO2 emitting combustion-drive production car in the world. The engine emits just 88 grammes of carbon dioxide per kilometer and does 85.6 miles a gallon on the combined cycle.
The smart fortwo micro hybrid drive is also available to contract hire now. Available with a choice of 61hp or 71hp engines with fuel savings of up to 29%, the smart fortwo 71hp averages 65.7mpg on the combined cycle, whilst emitting just 103g/km CO2 emissions.
