Smart manufacturer Daimler AG Smart has been celebrating the 10th anniversary of its iconic small car with a host of events and parties around the world.
The more unusual events included cramming 13 people into in to a smart fortwo, which at just over 5ft high and 8 ft 10in in length is one of the smallest cars on UK roads.
A team of professional contortionists – named the ‘smart car-tortionists’, which included Britain's Got Talent semi-finalist Iona Luvsandorj, bent and flexed their bodies every which way to ensure that all 13 of them squeezed inside the car.
The event was held at Mercedes-Benz World's in Surrey during smart’s Destination Brooklands festival.
After the car-tortionists showed the delighted crowd how it was done, volunteers from the audience were invited to have a go themselves, so see if an ‘amateur’ team could match or even go one better.
Incredibly one group managed to equal the professional’s record.
After the event Iona commented: ‘The interior of the smart fortwo is tardis-like as shown by its ability to fit 13 people inside. On behalf of the Smart car-tortionists, it's a great opportunity to take part in the smart challenge.’
