Contract Hire News – Leonard Cohen to sing at Mercedes-Benz World
The legendary singer-songwriter once described by Prince Charles as ‘wonderful’ and by U2’s Bono as ‘our Byron’ is about to embark on a tour of UK, which will see him perform on the stage at Mercedes-Benz World for an exclusive one-off concert.
Canadian born Leonard Cohen hit the charts most recently at the end of last year when ‘X-Factor’ winner Alexandre Burke covered his song ‘Hallelujah’. Whilst her version of the song reached number one at Christmas, Jeff Buckley was simultaneously in the number two position with his version of the song that Cohen first recorded in 1984 for his album Various Positions.
Over the years the track has been recorded by a multitude of artists including John Cane, Bono, Rufus Wainwright, Kathryn Williams, KD Lang, Aled Jones, Michael McDonald and Katherine Jenkins. It is also part of the soundtrack to the children’s animated film ‘Shrek’.
Contract hire customers who live within reach of Mercedes-Benz World in Surrey will be able to see him perform this classic number plus many other big hits such as ‘Suzanne’ and ‘Back on Boogie Street’ at the only concert he will perform in the south of England this year.
Cohen last toured in the UK in 2008, when audiences young and old flocked to hear the great legend play live for the first time in 15 years.
This years tour opens at Mercedes-Benz World on Saturday 11th July, before Cohen moves on to play at Liverpool’s Echo Arena on the 14th. Mercedes contract hire customers from Ireland will be able to see him at the 02 in Dublin, where he will perform three shows. The 74-year old will end his tour at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast on 24th July.
The Mercedes-Benz World concert will take place in an outdoor arena at the centre, which will be constructed especially for the event. Due to the exclusive nature of the concert, audience numbers will be strictly limited for this all-seated show.
