Contract Hire News – Mercedes-Benz announce record sales
Despite the on-going global slowdown in the car retailing industry, latest sales figures released by Mercedes-Benz Cars reveal some significant bucking of the downward trend.
Worldwide sales of Mercedes-Benz branded cars in April exceeded 80,000 vehicles. A further 10,000 cars from the smart, AMG and Maybach brands, brought total sales for the group to 90,900 vehicles sold, many funded through contract hire or other types of car finance.
These global figures are 23% down on Mercedes’ numbers for April 2008, but a closer look at the spreadsheet shows some encouraging signs.
Mercedes-Benz has just achieved their highest ever sales figures in China, and by more than a narrow margin. Sales of cars in April were up 59% compared to the same period last year.
Executive Vice President for sales and marketing at Mercedes-Benz Cars, Dr Klaus Maier attributes some of the success in China to the launch of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class. ‘
‘Thanks to the E-Class, we achieved first positive sales effects in April. The new E-Class is being very well received by our customers and in April it was the market leader in its segment in Germany.
‘Following its introduction in important markets such as the US and China’ he continued ’we expect the car’s greater availability to generate an additional sales boost in the coming months’.
