Contract Hire News – Enhancements for Mercedes S-Class AMG models
Since the high-performance versions of Mercedes’ flagship model the S-Class were launched three years ago more than 8,000 models have been delivered to new owners and contract hire customers.
The Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG and S 65 AMG are now to undergone a number of minor enhancements designed to give them improved handling and efficiency, and a more striking appearance.
The Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG and S 65 AMG will undergo the same styling changes as the rest of the S-Class range, with new headlamps and an arrow-shaped grille treatment. The AMG models will additionally get LED day-time front running lights, redesigned ‘double C’ rear light clusters, body coloured rear diffuser and AMG sports exhaust with quad chrome tailpipes.
Contract hire customers will be pleased to learn that fuel consumption figures and CO2 gas emissions have been improved by around 3% on both models without any compromise in power output. Performance figures for the 6.2-litre V8 engineed S 63 AMG remain at 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph (electronically limited).
The twin-turbo V12 unit in the Mercedes S 65 AMG delivers 603hp between 4800rpm and 5100rpm with 0-60mph in 4.4 seconds. Flat out is 186mph although this has been limited again. Torque in both the S 63 and S 65 is limited to 738lb ft.
The Mercedes S 63 and S 65 have 20-inch alloy wheels with 255/35 R20 tyres at the front and 275s at the rear. Contract hire the bigger brother though and you’ll get the better wheels – Titanium Grey twin-spokes with a mirror finish.
The Mercedes S 63 AMG also benefits from a Torque Vectoring Brake, which automatically brakes the inside rear wheel when cornering to improve driving dynamics and a new crosswind stabilisation system – Active Body Control.
The refined Mercedes-Benz S 63 and S 65 models will be available to contract hire from September in time for the new 59 registration plate.
