News - Mercedes-Benz Concept Fascination
Mercedes-Benz will be unveiling a new concept car next month at the Paris Motor Show. The Concept Fascination that Mercedes describes as a ‘shooting brake’ takes its front-end design cues from the new CLK and has the back end of the E-Class estate.
Whilst Mercedes-Benz says that there are no plans for the Concept Fascination to go into production, the car hints at a new design direction for future Mercedes production models. The front and tail lights - both containing LED elements, a refined grille and more angular bonnet and bolder bodylines build our anticipation for things to come.
‘Concept Fascination offers a completely new interpretation of the coupé. Its aesthetic, dynamic looks and painstakingly crafted details ensure that this study meets the highest design standards,' said Frank Bernthaler, Director, Sales and Marketing, Mercedes-Benz Cars, Middle East & Levant.
'Design studies also serve to stimulate a closer dialogue with customers and to gauge the public reaction to new ideas for cars. They help Mercedes-Benz designers to get a feel for future styling trends and to develop new design idioms.'
The first production model to incorporate this new design direction will be the new generation E-Class range which will be launched at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2009 and which will go on sale in the UK in the summer of 2009.
Concept Fascination has been inspired by the equestrian world. So think dark brown polished leather and chrome and elegant muscular flanks. In the boot the wooden-floored load area conceals a smoked glass table that rises into position, a humidor for cigars and a drinks refrigerator for champagne. Side compartments contain binoculars and a Leica-lensed digital camera, making the Mercedes concept the perfect companion for a day at the races.
This stunning Mercedes is powered by a 2.2-litre four-cylinder Bluetec diesel engine that has the power of a 3.0 litre V6 and delivers an impressive 204bhp. The new E-Class coupe, which will be launched in the UK in late summer of 2009, will have a production version of this engine and will be badged as a 250 CDI.
In a move towards creating a car reminiscent of the Mercedes W124 E-Class of the 80’s, which was available with saloon, estate, cabrio and coupe body shapes, the next generation of CLK is to be incorporated into the E-Class range. A cabrio version of which will be launched at the Frankfurt motor show in September 2009.
