That was until we saw the new Mercedes-Benz purchased by Blackburn Rovers forward El Hadji Diouf last week, which gives a new meaning to the words ‘flash motor’.
A Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is the latest addition to the 28-year old premier league footballer’s car collection, which is reported to include a Lincoln Navigator, Cadillac Escalade and a customised white Range Rover.
Mercedes car leasing customers who live in the Manchester area may have spotted the car on the city’s streets last week as the striker dined with friends at uber trendy celebrity hangout, Living Room. Diouf’s Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is hard to miss, chrome-plated from front grille to rear exhaust pipe, with an all-over mirror like finish.
The gleaming super car is reputedly the fastest convertible in the world, with a 0-60 mph time of 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 207 mph. With weekly salaries bigger than most people’s mortgages professional footballers are attracted to the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, for it’s awesome performance, attention grabbing looks and exclusive price tag.
Fellow footballers William Gallas who plays in defense for Arsenal and Chelsea’s Claude Makelele each also own a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren.
The full-chrome bodywork for us though is too much. There are few things that money can’t buy. Talent, taste and happiness being some of them. Diouf’s skills at kicking a football are in no doubt, nor is his happiness judging by his mega watt smile reflection in the side of his high shine SLR. Taste however…we guess that’s a matter of personal opinion.
