The latest-generation E-Class recorded a 62 per cent rise in Saloon sales worldwide between January and June, whilst sales of the Estate rocketed by 124 per cent buoyed by the arrival of a new model, which debuted in the UK at the beginning of 2010. Meanwhile the S-Class continued to dominate its segment with a 29 per cent increase for the first half of this year.
The delivery of 113,300 cars in June was a record for Mercedes-Benz, pushing its year-to-date sales to 556,700 compared to 483,300 for the corresponding period last year. The Chinese market continued to boom with sales up a staggering 120 per cent so far this year, whilst other key markets returned notable increases too – South Africa (23 per cent), Australia and the USA (22 per cent) and Japan (15 per cent).
In Europe, where the biggest growth came in the Netherlands (26 per cent) and Portugal (42 per cent), the UK saw sales rise by nine per cent.
